This is a description of the daily journey of my son Loki who was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Prostate on 7/11/2003.

Good Evening:

Loki had a wonderful day today, he's been active and playing all day long. He passed a piece of tissue last night through his foley, and we called the on-call Ped. Oncologist to check on it. She said as long as there was no blood, not to stress, and she would note that it in his record, and contact the Urologist.

We think that's why he was so upset on Monday, because since then his urine output has increase significantly!!! That is a very good sign.

He is eating more, and has begun to take more solids...gerber baby food again!!!

He has begun to point to things and vocalize, almost asking, "What's that", but not in words. So, I tell him....and he usually goes over and picks it up. He will bring things to me if I ask him. It's great to watch him develop his social skills.

Loki slept a little later this morning than usually, YEAH! He has also had a hour and a half nap so far. Hopefully, when he wakes he will be in as good of a mood as he was this morning. Took his meds with little to no resistance.

Loki had a wonderful morning! He was all over the place, walking, crawling, dragging his toys around. He keeps trying to put things into a hole in one of our speakers....go figure. He's been talking up a story all day. I am thinking he's getting another tooth in, as he keeps gnawing on his blanket. I think its an upper tooth, but nothing has popped through yet. So far only one tooth in front, and a hint of a second next to it.

I would have to say that the effects of the chemo last Friday have just about worn off. He seems to be a little sore still in the hip area, so I will mention it the doctor as well. He does seem to sleeping alot though.

I am a little worried about the upcoming chemo combo as it is a different set of drugs. We are only supposed to be in the hospital for 5 days, but seeing how the first stretch turned out. I wouldn't be suprised if we were there for longer. We will have to see.

Mom is heading home on Friday, but others have offered to join us here if we need the help. I appreciate their thoughtfulness and generosity.

The creation of this Blog.

Well, Loki is having a so-so day today. He appears to be happy and content one minute, but cranky, sore, and crying the next. We are not sure, but I think the chemo drugs are beginning to a number on his poor tummy. He is eating but not as well as I would like. I am hoping that picks up soon.

I am wondering if there isn't something going on with his left hip. It appears to hurt him if his leg is touched. I am going to have to mention this to the ped-onco this Friday when we are admitted.

Other than that, things have been going well today.
